World of Smiles 微笑的世界
About ten years ago
大約十年前，
when I was an undergraduate in college,
在我還是一名大學(xué)生的時候，
I was working as an intern at my University’s Museum of Natural History.
那時，我正在所就讀的大學(xué)自然歷史博物館實習(xí)。
One day while working at the cash register in the gift shop,
一天，當(dāng)正在禮品店收銀機(jī)前忙于工作時，
I saw an elderly couple come in with a little girl in a wheelchair.
我看見一對老夫婦帶著一個坐輪椅的小女孩走了進(jìn)來。
As I looked closer at this girl,
更進(jìn)一步的去觀察那個女孩之后，
I saw that she was kind of perched on her chair.
我才看到她坐在她的椅子上，
I then realized she had no arms or legs,
沒有胳膊和腿，
just a head, neck and torso.
只是頭，脖子和軀干，
She was wearing a little white dress with red polka dots.
她穿著一件有紅色圓點的白色連衣裙。
As the couple wheeled her up to me I was looking down at the register.
當(dāng)那對夫婦將輪椅推向我這邊時，我正埋頭在收銀機(jī)前工作，
I turned my head toward the girl and gave her a wink.
然后，我把頭轉(zhuǎn)向了那個女孩，對她眨了眨眼。
As I took the money from her grandparents,
從她奶奶那接過錢的時候，
I looked back at the girl,
我又看了看那個女孩，
who was giving me the cutest, largest smile
她給了我一個最可愛，最美麗的微笑，
I have ever seen.
我從沒見過那樣的笑容，
All of a sudden her handicap was gone
霎那間她的生理缺陷消失得無影無蹤，
and all I saw was this beautiful girl,
我看到的只是這個漂亮的女孩兒，
whose smile just melted me and almost instantly gave me a completely new sense of what life is all about.
她的笑容讓我動容，讓我瞬間懂得了生命的全新意義。
She took me from a poor, unhappy college student and brought me into her world;
她將我從一個窮苦，傷心的大學(xué)生中解救出來，把我?guī)нM(jìn)了她的世界.
a world of smiles, love and warmth.
一個充滿笑容，愛以及溫暖的世界。
